Lock and Dam No. 4 is a lock and dam located near Alma, Wisconsin and Kellogg, Minnesota on the Upper Mississippi River around river mile 752.8. It was constructed and placed in operation in May 1935. Its last major rehabilitation was from 1988 to 1994. The dam consists of a concrete structure 1,367 feet (416.7 m) long with six roller gates, 22 tainter gates and an earth embankment 5,400 feet (1,645.9 m) long. The lock is 110 feet (33.5 m) wide by 600 feet (182.9 m) long. There were ten major injuries and three deaths recorded during construction of the facility.
